I do my best to include a little life lesson hidden in everything I write. If I can tell a good story while subtly passing along a nickel's worth of free advice, I'm happy to do it. 

I like to make all of my characters realistic and believable. They are strong, intelligent, and (usually) morally upstanding, and they could be someone you meet in your daily life.
